Hospitality and
Tourism provides the opportunity to work with business
people from Lamoille County to market programs and
services. "Stowe Winter Carnival" and the "Party for the
People" are marketing projects with the communities of
Stowe and Morrisville. An active resume is kept and will
look very inviting to colleges and future employers.
During the
second semester, information on where to obtain loans,
how to develop a web site, and how to create Power Point
presentations (combined with Corel Draw) for marketing
to potential customers and/or vendors is presented. The
tourism and hospitality industries are covered through
research, job shadowing, computer simulations, and co-op
experiences. The emphasis is on Vermont and the United
States with some international travel presented.
The school
store is the lab where students learn how to order
products, operate a cash register and scanning
equipment, computerized inventory systems, plan weekly
work schedules, maintain accurate records, and figure
profit and loss. The opportunity to meet new people,
travel, and win scholarships (over $200,000 given away
at State DECA competition alone) are available to you
through An Association of Marketing Students. Students
travel to the NARCON conference in November, later to
State Competition in Burlington and finally the National
Competition in April for six nights and seven days in
such places as Orlando or Los Angeles.
