                                                          Course Syllabus:

Computer Operating System: MAC OS / Desktop; file management digital storage; maintenance; trouble shooting; ports, cables, and peripheral

Digital Theory: Digital vocabulary; digital outputs: CD, DVD, compression, digital storage

Communications:
MEDIA - Written word; still images: motion picture; television; multimedia; analysis and critique; advertising: brand marketing & product identity; labels, letterhead and logos; preparing and giving reports.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY - Bitmap images, scanning; composition; special effects; image management; digital color; image modes; Photoshop.

VECTOR GRAPHICS - Drawing tools, fonts and history of type, Illustrator.

ANIMATION - Rhythm and motion; 2D animation; animated figure; motion graphics; claymation; 3D (independent); Flash and After Effects.

INTERNET - Web graphics, the interface: buttons, navigation; basic HTML; website management; Dreamweaver.

PUBLISHING - Print layout and design; print graphics; print standards; publications: business card, brochure, newsletter; Quark.

AUDIO / VIDEO PRODUCTION - Camera; production process; pre and post production procedures; script writing and storyboarding; sound; lighting; video editing, video compression; Final Cut Pro.

ART & DESIGN - Principles of design; drawing basics: sighting, creating form, perspective, anatomy; history of visual art; cultural design; color theory.

CAREERS in MULTIMEDIA & DESIGN / BUSINESS - Resume writing; portfolio: CD and hard copy; interview procedures; guest professionals and class trips.

Class Objective: Multimedia and Design will provide students with an understanding and the essential skills for an advanced start in careers relating to visual electronic communication; careers such as graphic design, video technology, mass media and web design.

First Semester:

Illustrator, Basic Skills
Mac OS and Maintenance
Understanding the electronic medium, key concepts, vocabulary
HTML, simple coding
Website design, navigation and architecture
Principles of Layout and Design
Concentration on good design/ Classical proportions, history of design
A Brief History of Type
Logos, logotypes
Design for Signage
Basic video production skills: story boarding, camera shots, continuity in motion, video editing, titles/credits
Career Research, interviews and research paper
Guest artists: videographer, web designer, and graphic artist
Workplace Maturity Benchmarks, professionalism
Interactivity as a tool
Resume

Second Semester:
Product development
Publications; Packaging, brochure
Designing for Purpose; Book Jacket Design/ preparing for publication, Laser Wood Cut Design / design to production, Brochure and newsletter, Production process, working with client
Advanced skills: Flash and animation for web, Image Ready, Quark and preparing for publication, After Effects and animation in video titles, Director and CD ROM production

All students will have portfolio upon completion : Course includes a mid-term and final, written and practical components.
